Research shows thermal stability decreases in metal complexes from hydrazine derivatives, indicating a new structural approach for metal binding.
Abstract In this paper, hydrazine containing Schiff base (ScB) and its metal complexes with five different metals (Co (Scb-Co), Cu (ScB-Cu), Pb (ScB-Pb), Mn (ScB-Mn), Zn (ScB-Zn)) were synthesized and structurally and thermally characterized. After obtaining the ScB from compounds vaniline and phenylhydrazine in ethanol by elimination reaction and then hexadentate homometallic complexes (HMCs) were obtained by reaction in tetrahydrofuran with five different metallic forms. The structural architecture of the synthesized ScB and HMCs were elucidated by Fourier Transform-Infrared (FT-IR), Hydrogen (¹H) and Carbon (¹³C) Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopies. Optical, thermal and surface characterizations of ScB and HMCs with proven structural properties are described using UV-Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), thermogravimetric-differential thermogravimetric analyses (TG-DTG) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques, respectively. According to thermogravimetric analysis, % char values of ScB and HMCs; ScB-Co, ScB-Cu, ScB-.Pb, ScB-Zn, ScB-Mn are 28.2% and 5.4, 27, 16, 19, 7.1% respectively. It was observed that HMCs obtained with metals included in the structure reduced the thermal stability of the structure and the % residue amount decreased at 1000 ⁰C.
