Research demonstrates a new method to assess cognitive function in dementia patients using behavioral data, highlighting its potential for improved elderly care.
Dementia is a progressive disease, manifesting distinct stages at varying rates in each patient. In dementia elderly care, fluctuating cognitive function presents a significant challenge for caregivers, as timely assessment of a patient's cognitive status is essential for effective care and rehabilitation. In this study, we utilize IoT sensors to gather behavioral data such as gait and sleeping patterns, and introduce a quantification method to analyze cognitive function changes. Our analysis indicates that this quantification approach can assess cognitive performance, particularly in memory-related abilities like registration and recall.
