Project improves cervical and breast cancer screening rates among women with severe mental illness, suggesting EHR integration enhances healthcare access.
Women with severe mental illness (SMI) are 50% less likely to receive mammograms and 36% less likely to undergo cervical cancer screenings. Barriers such as stigma, limited access to healthcare, and poor integration between mental health and primary care contribute to these gaps. This project aimed to improve cervical and breast cancer screening rates among long-stay female patients with SMI at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, Canada using smart electronic health record-based solutions.
