Research reveals high emotional distress in hair loss patients, suggesting psychological interventions can improve wellbeing.
Our study highlights high levels of emotional distress seen in a variety of hair disorders. Significant psychological morbidity did not correlate with disease severity in our two most common diagnoses: AA and FPHL. By using simple screening tools and risk stratification in clinic, we can identify patients with significant psychological morbidity and we have demonstrated that formal psychological therapies can be beneficial in improving overall wellbeing in all types of alopecia.
