Despite external circumstances, in 2024 the role of the gas industry in the Russian economy increased, which is associated with an increase in production and an increase in LNG supplies, in contrast to the oil industry, where there is a tendencyfor both a decrease in production and exports. This is largely due to the fact that the gas industry is considered more efficient and attractive in terms of added value. At the same time, the increase in natural gas production in Russia is characterized by an increase in greenhouse gas emissions, although to a lesser extent than the extraction of oil and coal. Thus, according to the IEA, the share of the gas industry (taking into account the transportation and production of LNG) in methane emissions in Russia is 26.2 % (the world average is 20.2 %), while the share of the oil and coal industries is 43.3 and 26.8 %, respectively. It can be stated that natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel. The subject of the study is the processes of transformation of Russian gas exports, including pipeline supplies and LNG. According to the author, the most promising way to increase exports in the long term may be to increase LNG supplies, which is especially relevant in the context of the development of the Northern Sea Route.
