This analysis compares daylighting potential using simplified methods and simulation in a case study of a library, highlighting regulatory discrepancies.
One way to save energy in lighting systems is by harvesting daylight, which depends on providing visual comfort and integration with artificial lighting systems. A recent tool for this evaluation is the INI-C (2022) from PBE Edifica. Taking the UFMG Engineering Library as a case study, this research aimed to compare the daylighting potential using the simplified and simulation methods of INI-C. The work also sought to understand how to ensure effective integration with the artificial lighting system. It was concluded that discrepancies between Brazilian regulatory instruments need to be addressed. The simulation shows 27% more potential for daylight integration, but the circuit division for luminaire activation, required by both methods, may not guarantee the most efficient integration with artificial lighting.
