Review describes the fabrication of glyco-materials using self-assembly in aqueous systems, highlighting hydrogels and functionality.
Glyco-materials composed of saccharides hold great promise for a wide range of (bio)applications. In this highlight review, we describe recent developments by our research group on glyco-materials fabricated by aqueous self-assembly of glucose-based molecules. In particular, we discuss molecular design for incorporating redox- and photo-responsive functionalities into these self-assembling systems to develop stimuli-responsive soft materials such as hydrogels.
