Research reveals the superiority of the Voce model for predicting high-temperature behavior in 18Ni350 maraging steel, highlighting its applications for crashworthiness.
This paper explores the constitutive model of 18Ni350 maraging steel under various temperatures and strain rates, which is crucial for crashworthiness and impact load applications. Systematic mechanical property evaluations were conducted using tests ranging from 25 °C to 600 °C and Hopkinson bar experiments. The applicability of three constitutive models—Ludwik, Swift, and Voce—was compared, and the Voce model was found to have the best fitting performance. The Voce model was then integrated and improved with the Johnson-Cook model to develop the Modified Voce (MV) model. The MV model demonstrated exceptional accuracy in predicting high-temperature behavior. Taylor impact tests validated the model, showing excellent agreement between simulated and experimental deformations. This research provides valuable insights for enhancing simulations and applications under extreme conditions.
