Scholars examine how crime and vice shape collective memory across local and state contexts, highlighting unresolved issues.
Our scholars’ work in the articles for this special issue illustrate the travels over time that individual criminals and vice districts have in our collective memory—local, regional, and state-wide. In some cases, they are part of our collective memory, and in others it is a memory that we wish to keep buried, or ones we need to reconcile in our present. The questions we ask in reflecting upon what we learn, may cause us to question what is crime and who defines it as such?
