Microscopy analysis reveals melt inclusions' composition in zircon, indicating magma conditions during formation.
Melt inclusions in zircon refer to tiny pockets of molten rock (magma) that become trapped within the crystal as it forms. These structures provide valuable information about the conditions and composition of the magma at the time of zircon’s formation. In the present contribution single melt inclusions were investigated with the help of transmitted light microscopy and electron microprobe analysis. Based on the documentation of numerous zircon crystals, it could be found that amorphous magma bodies included in the grains vary in size from several to tens of micrometers. In the present case they are furthermore characterized by a granitic to granodioritic composition with high concentrations of Si and Al.
