Schiff base facilitates Ag+ selective gelation in solutions, indicating potential for ionic applications.
Pyridoxal–coupled carbazole 1 has been designed, synthesized, and characterized. The solid‐state supramolecular assemblies of 1 and its chloride salt 1a are discussed. They exhibit different packing and supramolecular assemblies. Schiff base 1 is aggregated in a number of solvents such as DMF‐H 2 O (1:1, v/v) and DMSO‐H 2 O (1:1, v/v) in the presence of Ag + and introduces metallogels. In comparison, no gelation of 1 is observed in presence of other metal ions under identical conditions. Ag + ‐gels show good viscoelastic characteristics with fibrous morphologies. The temperature‐dependent ion‐conductivity of the gels is investigated, focusing on their potential for electrochemical applications. The results reveal a strong correlation between temperature and ion‐conductivity with an Arrhenius‐type behavior, indicating thermally activated ion hopping motion within the gels. The gel from aqueous DMF exhibits higher value of ionic conductivity (2.86 × 10 −4 S cm −1 ) as compared to DMSO gel (1.42 × 10 −4 S cm −1 ) at room temperature.
