Case report highlights surgical and medical approach to gastric ulcer perforation, indicating key recovery strategies.
Introduction: Secondary peritonitis due to gastric ulcer perforation is a surgical emergency that can be life-threatening. Case report: We report the case of a 56-year-old male, with a history of alcohol and tobacco use, presenting with a prepyloric gastric perforation. Abdominal CT revealed a pneumoperitoneum. Laparotomy revealed two gastric perforations, managed by suture and drainage. Postoperative recovery was favourable. Discussion: Perforated ulcers are associated with risk factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and Helicobacter pylori infection. Prompt surgical management combined with appropriate medical treatment is essential to reduce morbidity and mortality. Conclusion: This case highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and long-term follow-up to prevent recurrence.
