Electromechanical processing enhances microhardness of high-entropy powder coatings, indicating improved durability.
An approach to obtaining powder coatings from a high-entropy Fe-Cr-Co-Ni-Mn alloy of equiatomic composition, based on mechanical alloying of elemental powders, slip method of applying the powder mixture, induction sintering of the powder coating and its subsequent electromechanical processing (EMP) - surface plastic deformation with simultaneous resistive heating of the deformation zone is considered. It is shown that high cooling rates of the deformation zone (∼104 K / s) in the EMP process ensure the formation of a rapidly quenched structure in the coating, which together with the compaction of the coating contributes to an increase in its microhardness to 230 ± 15 HV from 180 ± 20 HV after sintering.
