Review assesses slag properties in metallurgical plants, indicating their potential for refractory materials.
The technogenic waste from the metallurgical industry is considered, which contains valuable mineral components that can be used as raw materials for the production of materials in demand across various industries. One of the applications of these wastes is the production of multifunctional refractories, including linings for thermal units in metallurgical production. The composition of steelmaking slag from metallurgical enterprises in the Karaganda region is analyzed. The aim of the study is to assess the feasibility of using these slags for the production of refractory bricks. Key components of the slags, such as calcium, silicon, aluminum, and magnesium oxides, and their impact on the properties of refractory materials, are evaluated. The results confirm the potential of using local slags for the production of high-quality refractories.
