This introduction reviews cybersecurity literature, revealing trends in governance and the human experience online.
It has become increasingly difficult to deny the political impacts of technology. In this introduction to the special forum, we take stock of the current literature on cybersecurity and international relations, including the emergence of a critical literature in this field. We proceed to argue that critical inquiry can be taken further, especially in light of recent trends in cyber-governance. We situate our work as specifically concerned with the human experience of online security. We conclude by introducing the contributions to the forum, which collectively deal with discipline and resistance in online spaces, norm entrepreneurship in inclusive cybersecurity, and the nexus between cyberlibertarianism and online gender-based violence.
