This research reveals narratives of technology-facilitated gender-based violence in young people, highlighting digital technology's dual role.
This article explores the experiences of Indonesian young people with technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), a phenomenon that has surged alongside increased Internet usage, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the alarming rise in the number of cases, scholarly research on TFGBV among young people in Indonesia remains scarce. Through focus group discussions and in-depth interviews, this study reveals that the digital landscape has become a space where young men often normalise violent behaviours within their peer interactions. Conversely, digital technologies empower young women to create online platforms that serve as vital alternatives for voicing concerns and offering support to victims. This research enriches the under-explored discourse on TFGBV among Indonesian young people, providing valuable insights that can inform both governmental and non-governmental strategies aimed at combating this pervasive issue.
