Analysis reveals voltage and frequency fluctuations in the Albanian power system, indicating need for further study on wind turbine integration.
This paper analyzes the impact of wind turbine connection in the Albanian power system. More specifically, the integration of 10 wind turbines with a total power of 60 MW (at 110/400 kV voltage), connected to the Zemblak substation, is taken as a case study. It is worth noting that type 4 (Full Bridge converter) was chosen as the wind turbine type. Furthermore, by choosing the Koman node as the balancing node of the system, voltage and frequency fluctuations were analyzed for 4 different scenarios: 3-Phase line to ground fault, disconnection from the system, connection to the system and reduction of the farm’s power. The results show that despite some voltage and frequency fluctuations, the inertia of the Albanian power system is quite large due to the presence of hydro-generators. However, for wind farms with greater power than that considered in this paper, further studies to analyze their impact on the system are necessary.
