Naturalism is considered one of the literary movements that examined the human nature - mental condition and illnesses - with the means of determinism and positivism, taking the forms of psychiatric and pathological studies. However, the theory of Naturalism was not univocal in the perspective of many authors who tried to define its principles before and after Émile Zola. In that case, Naturalism is an eclectic literary movement and, respectively, an attempt to achieve transcendence through rigorous investigation and profound study of the world. Exploring the theories and practices of Naturalism in world literature and Romanian literature can restore and rediscover secondary particularities, influences of otherliterary developments but which can offer a complementary view on the movement, and can determine the identification of solutions to revitalise and cure the society.
