Survey and interview data reveal how restrictive racial projects limit opportunities for faculty of color, indicating systemic racism.
In the USA, faculty of color (FOC) are especially impacted by intensifying federal attacks on the academy, while they also continue to experience the ongoing normalization of racism. Drawing on survey and interview data, this paper examines how faculty of color were once used for "diversity" value while simultaneously experiencing devaluation. Specifically, it considers: How restrictive racial projects (RRPs) – practices and/or policies that are designed to or result in the limiting of opportunities, freedoms, movements, and rights of people of color within particular spaces – situate these experiences at the intersection of the race and space.
