Application of radiophotonic technology enhances microwave radiometric systems for improved atmospheric monitoring, suggesting improved weather forecasting capabilities.
Microwave radiometric systems are a key tool for remote sensing of the atmosphere, providing measurements of temperature, humidity, cloud particle concentration and other parameters. Modern requirements to increase spatial and spectral resolution, as well as to minimize the mass-size characteristics of the equipment stimulate the introduction of radiophotonic technologies. In the article the principles of integration of radiophotonic devices into multifrequency radiometric systems, their advantages in the context of broadband signal processing, generation of stable reference frequencies and beamforming are considered. The prospects of application of such systems for monitoring of atmospheric processes, including forecasting of extreme weather events, are analyzed.
