This paper investigates the cinematographic representation of young women's bedrooms through an analysis of fiction films produced in Chile during the 20th century (1939-1999). This qualitative study focuses on films that starred young women and contrasts these representations with the hegemonic images of female young people in Youth Studies. The study's findings conclude that: a) young women were important protagonists of Chilean cinema during the 20th century; b) Cinema —and visual culture— show us that the bedrooms belonging to young women and men are not universally similar; c) Significant challenges persist in terms of research about girls/young women in Latin America, particularly with the use of global categories when trying to understand local cultural processes.
