Analysis shows common damage in conveyor belts and presents maintenance strategies, indicating RCM and FMEA as effective tools.
Conveyor belts are an important tool in sand depot operations, but like other machines, conveyor belts can also experience various problems, such as damage and wear on several components such as tires, bearings, pulleys, and conveyor frames. Frequent damage to this machine can disrupt productivity and increase operational costs, and the placement of conveyors outdoors and the lack of shade from rain and direct sunlight increases the possibility of damage to the conveyor. The conveyor belt of the 250/400 type crusher machine used at the Nadri Independent Basecamp functions as a means of transportation for distributing split stone material that has been processed on the crusher machine which is efficient in moving material, but often experiences damage that can disrupt operational processes. The identification of the value of failure consequences (severity), causes of failure (occurrence), and failure detection values (detection) of each conveyor component by means of site surveys, interviews with operators and mechanics, and data analysis using the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) method with the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) analysis approach. The results showed that the most common damage to conveyor belt components includes wear, tears, and disruption to the drive system. A thorough understanding of the causes and impacts of damage can help companies take appropriate preventative measures
