Quantitative analysis reveals weak correlation between HDI and recycling in Santa Catarina municipalities, highlighting waste management factors.
This study analyzes the recycling of municipalities in Santa Catarina using data from the 2022 Brazilian Recycling Atlas, considering the Human Development Index (HDI), population, and selective collection structure, as well as investigating the sustainable behavior of these municipalities. The research employs a quantitative and descriptive approach, utilizing secondary data to create a per capita ranking of recycled volume. The results reveal a weak correlation between HDI and recycling, suggesting that the efficiency of waste management is more influenced by the organization of the selective collection system and community engagement. Smaller municipalities demonstrated greater efficiency in recycling, indicating that adequate collection logistics and strong community participation are essential for a sustainable management model. The conclusions emphasize the importance of public policies that integrate different stakeholders, promoting a more effective and sustainable approach to urban waste management.
