This study tests barriers to modernizing social work education in Egypt, highlighting the need for reform in curriculum and accreditation.
There have been moves to examine social work education and assess its ability to respond to current and new problems around the world. This study tests a model of factors that challenge the opportunities to upgrade and modernize social work education in Egypt. A total of 226 social work educators have participated in the study by responding to an online instrument of the study model of 38 items related to seven variables. The findings of the study identified internal factors such as social work curriculum, faculty experience in research and field work and knowledge of accreditation. External factors that represent barriers for change and solutions are seen in lack of the existence of an educational institution that organize and manage social work education in Egypt. Implications of the study can be used in many countries around the world to establish plans and strategies for modernizing social work education.
