Survey identifies key factors influencing green computing adoption in Burundian universities, suggesting targeted training is essential.
The global need to address climate change requires the adoption of sustainable practices across all sectors, including higher education. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is crucial for university operations but significantly contributes to energy consumption and electronic waste. Green computing offers a solution by minimizing the environmental footprint of ICT. This study investigates the key factors related to ICT personnel competencies that influence the adoption of green computing practices in Burundian universities. A survey research design was employed, involving a questionnaire administered to ICT personnel across 21 universities in Burundi. Data analysis, including descriptive statistics and factor analysis, revealed that ICT skills, practical experience, professional experience, and gender significantly contribute to the capacity of ICT staff to support green computing adoption. The findings highlight the need for targeted training programs, policy interventions, and awareness campaigns to enhance these competencies and promote a culture of sustainability within Burundian higher education institutions.
