Friction treatment enhances tensile strength of plasma coatings made from steel powder, suggesting improved durability.
The first experiments on the hardening of plasma coatings on a cylindrical surface by friction treatment with two oppositely located tools have been carried out. The steel powder 65Х25Г13Н3 (Fe - 23.7% Cr - 11.9% Mn - 3.2% Ni - 0.57% C - 0.52% Si) was chosen as the coating material. When the pressure of the tools on the coating is up to 80 MPa and their impact power is 1.06 kW, the temperature in the processing zone rises to 1100 °C, at which the coating and the ends of the tools are oxidized, which limits the adhesive interaction between them and allows plastic deformation and compaction of the coating. The tensile strength of the coating after friction treatment increases from the initial value 254 MPa to 333 MPa.
