This technique reveals hardness and adhesion resistance in surface layers, highlighting the role of acoustic emission.
The developed technique of scratch-testing of treated surface layers of materials with registration of scratching diagrams with a diamond indenter in the coordinates «load-scratch length» is described. The technique makes it possible to determine the hardness during scratching, the specific energy of local destruction, and the adhesion resistance of the surface layers of materials and coatings. The effective use of scratch testing in conjunction with the acoustic emission method is shown.
