Conference reveals hydraulic installations in Cassinomagus, showcasing drainage systems in ancient agglomeration.
The organisation of a conference on the theme of the management of so-called «undesirable» water was an opportunity for the team of researchers at Chassenon, who have been working together since 2011 within the framework of Collective Research Programmes, to look again at the question of the sewage systems of the ancient agglomeration. The numerous excavation campaigns recently carried out at various points of the Cassinomagus site have made it possible to understand the hydraulic installations and their evolution, not only on the scale of the monumental complex, but also on the larger scale of the south-eastern sector of the agglomeration. In this way, the specific hydraulic characteristics of each of the monuments could be studied in order to highlight coherent drainage systems on a large scale. These systems are the result of network planning made possible by the construction of public and private monuments on unbuilt or redeveloped spaces that have been «wiped clean» of previous occupations.
