This study demonstrates the impact of end-lock distance on stress analysis in screen shutters, highlighting risks to structural integrity.
To date, individual performance evaluations of fire shutters considering the distinct characteristics of metal and screen shutters have not been conducted. Therefore, in this study, a performance evaluation methodology was developed for screen shutters by reviewing domestic and international literature on key characteristics, such as fabric properties, shrinkage rates from fire resistance tests, and the distance between end-locks and guide rails. This study also proposes key factors affecting the structural integrity of screen-shutter surfaces through analytical calculations. Briefly, the shrinkage behavior of the screen shutters was analyzed separately in the horizontal and vertical directions, and the corresponding stress was calculated for each shrinkage rate. This analysis revealed that the horizontal stress, particularly around the guide rail area, is particularly vulnerable, and dependent on the distance between the end-lock and guide rail. This stress-based evaluation approach will enhance the structural soundness of large-scale screen shutters.
