Analysis defines ceramic complexes in terminal preclassic to early terminal classic periods, suggesting evolving obsidian strategies in the Southern Belize Region.
Analysis of pottery from Nim li Punit allows us to define new ceramic complexes that span the Terminal Preclassic to early Terminal Classic periods (AD 150-830+). We describe the ceramic groups and constituent types associated with each complex and discuss homologies throughout the Maya lowlands. We discuss changing obsidian procurement strategies during each ceramic phase and align the chronology of Nim li Punit to major moments of growth and development in the Southern Belize Region (SBR).
