Numerical simulations reveal how varying clearance scale impacts flow state in Taylor-Couette flow, indicating effects on stability and vortex formation.
To achieve greater load capacity and enhanced stability, the clearance scale of gas Foil bearings (GFBs) tends to shrink to a small scale, increasing the constraining effect of the walls. This not only suppresses the formation and development of Taylor vortices but also induces local axial flow, causing the flow state of the Taylor-Couette flow to change continually. In this context, the present study investigates the mechanism by which the clearance scale influences the flow state of Taylor-Couette flow. Numerical simulations are performed for Taylor-Couette flow in small, medium, and large clearance, and an analysis of the flow state differences due to variations in clearance scale is conducted to reveal the influence of clearance scale on Taylor-Couette flow in multiwedge clearance.
