Mutra Ashmari (urinary calculi) is a common and painful urological disorder mentioned in Ayurveda. Hetu Vipareeta Chikitsa, which emphasizes treating disease by opposing the causative factors (hetu), offers a strategic approach to prevent recurrence and progression. This paper explores the application of Hetu Vipareeta Chikitsa in managing Mutra Ashmari through Ayurvedic principles and classical references. Mutra Ashmari (urinary calculi) is recognized as one of the Ashta Mahagadas (eight major diseases) in Ayurvedic literature due to its painful symptoms and tendency for recurrence.(1) The Ayurvedic concept of Hetu Vipareeta Chikitsa, which emphasizes treatment by eliminating the root cause of the disease, is pivotal in managing such chronic conditions. This article explores the theoretical background and practical application of Hetu Vipareeta Chikitsa in the treatment of Mutra Ashmari, highlighting the importance of doshic balance, nidan parivarjana (removal of causative factors), and the use of Ashmarighna dravyas.
