Herein we describe the first record of the Pannonian endemic Anostracan species Chirocephalus carnuntanus (Brauer, 1877) from northern Central Europe. The presence of the species was recorded approximately 25 km north of the city of Magdeburg (Germany) in a relatively high abundance in a temporarily flooded agricultural area in 6.4 km distance to the mouth of the river Ohre into the river Elbe. The first observation was on 15 March 2024. Subsequent surveys and collections of specimens were made until 22 April 2024. Near surface natural salt banks seem to have contributed to the relatively high salinity and conductivity of the ephemerally water filled habitat. We suggest that the new population of C. carnuntanus in Germany was founded via zoochory by migrating birds.
