The article reveals the ghost-word 'adormita' in the 1988 Bible edition, highlighting editorial misinterpretations and poetic influences.
THE PARADOXICAL LEXICAL STATUS OF A GHOST-WORD: THE NOUN ADORMITA Abstract The article discusses the use of the word „adormita” in the 1988 jubilee edition of the 1688 Bible (Isaiah, 56:10). Upon attentive scrutiny, the word proves to be a ghost-word. Whether related to the poetic pressure of the text, or only misreading of the Cyrillic print, the 1988 editors of the Bible wrongly used the noun „adormita” instead of the infinitive „a dormita”. Also grammatically possible and stylistically valuable, the noun „adormita” is a creation of the 1988 editors of the Bible, hence the 1688 attestation is incorrect.
