Analysis explores challenges in journalism education amid the Russian-Ukrainian war, highlighting digital integration and faculty retention.
The theses examine various aspects of journalism education in Ukraine. They identify the transformational processes taking place within the field. The views of domestic researchers on key issues of journalism education are highlighted, including: the future of journalism and journalism education; the transformation of journalism education; the integration of digital technologies into journalism education; current development trends; challenges in retaining qualified faculty; practical journalist training; and the safety competencies of journalism graduates in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The paper presents three models of journalism education as defined by Professor Lawrence Solkin of the University of London, which are crucial for exploring journalism education in Ukraine. The main strategies for overcoming the crisis in journalism, according to Borys Potyatynyk, are outlined: 1) additional taxation of tech giants like Google and Facebook, who are often seen as key contributors to the crisis; 2) state subsidies; 3) the development of independent university-based media, as universities are traditionally viewed as «spaces of freedom.» The model of the modern journalist is also examined based on research by V. Rizun. The paper formulates the main challenges facing journalism education in Ukraine and outlines the prospects for its improvement.
