This article demonstrates the educational impact of digital educational escape rooms in teaching A1 Greek, suggesting new teaching methods for young learners.
In recent years, the educational reality has been changing rapidly due to technological developments. Online teaching requires constant search, design and potential implementation of new teaching methods that promote the distance education process (DEL). This article is based on the utilization of an innovative pedagogical tool in the teaching of the second/foreign language (L2), the Digital Educational Escape Rooms (DEERs). However, their digital form and use in L2 is at an early stage with a progressively increasing course in the international literature and consequently insufficient empirical research along with an incomplete theoretical background for the heterolingual students of Greek. In this context, the theoretical identification and documentation of DEERs is attempted. In this light and with a focus on the existing literature, their educational contribution to second/foreign language teaching is mapped in detail. Particular emphasis is placed on their emerging benefits for young foreign language learners. The article ends with a DEERs teaching scenario for children at A1 Greek level.
