This analysis employs basin modeling to evaluate oil generation in the Ems-Timan complex, highlighting sedimentation conditions and organic matter content.
In the context of growing interest in deep-submerged oil and gas complexes in old oil-producing regions, the study of the Ems-Timan (Devonian terrigenous) complex of the Perm Territory is becoming relevant. Despite the discovery of more than 40 oil fields in the northern part of the Volga-Ural province, there is still no common understanding of the processes of formation of these deposits. The main problem is the lack of knowledge of the generation potential, sedimentation conditions and catagenetic maturity of organic matter (OS) in this complex. The purpose of this study is a comprehensive assessment of the oil and gas potential of Devonian terrigenous deposits using basin modeling.Correlation data for more than 700 wells were used, including logging, lithofacies analysis, and pyrolytic core studies. For the first time in this region, basin modeling was performed in the Genex software product, which made it possible to reconstruct the history of immersion, thermal evolution and oil generation. The results of the study showed that the most favorable conditions for the formation of source formations developed in the Ems-Eifelian deposits of the central part of the Krasnokamsko-Chusovskaya paleovadina. The maximum thickness of the terrigenous Devonian (160-200 m) and increased concentrations of sapropelic OV were recorded here. According to modeling data, the deposits of the Ems and Eifel tiers entered the main phase of oil generation in the middle of the Permian period, and the Zhivet, Pashian and Timan cities - at the turn of the Permian and Triassic periods. The top of the «oil window» is located at depths of 1.63-1.74 km, while the Borodulinskaya and Polaznenskaya-12 well zone is recognized as the most promising area, where favorable lithological and facies conditions, high organic matter content, and the presence of reservoirs are combined. Thus, the study made it possible not only to clarify the history of the geological development of the territory, but also to identify the most promising areas for searching for new hydrocarbon deposits in the Devonian terrigenous complex. The data obtained are of great practical importance for the selection of areas for geological exploration in the Perm Territory.
