Demonstrates nanotube formation from benzodithiophene in various electrolytes, suggesting implications for liquid-repellent surfaces.
Numerous natural species form surface structures for repelling all kind of liquids. It is demonstrated that nanotubes are an exceptional candidate. Here, nanotubes are formed by soft‐template electropolymerization. Two stereoisomers of benzodithiophene ( BDT and BDT‐bis ) are investigated, as monomers, different electrolytes are investigated as well as solvents containing water to form aggregates in solution. With BDT , it is seen that, using an interfacially more active electrolyte with longer alkyl chains (tetrahexylammonium perchlorate (Hex 4 NClO 4 )), aggregates are better stabilized and nanotubes (monodimensional growth) are formed. This finding is extremely important for the scientific and industrial communities.
