Experimental measurement deduced resonance width and branching ratio for 8Be state in Li reactions, indicating implications for nucleosynthesis.
The ⁷Li(³He,d)⁸Be*(p)⁷Li reaction was measured at Elab(³He)=28 MeV for studying the ⁷Be(n,p₁)⁷Li* reaction, which is a ⁷Be destruction reaction in the big bang nucleosynthesis. Resonant states at 18.9--20.1 MeV in ⁸Be were populated by the ⁷Li(³He,d)⁸Be* reaction and decay protons to the ground (p₀) and first-excited states (p₁) in ⁷Li were well separated and measured. The resonance width Γ and branching ratio Γₚ₁/Γₚ₀ for the 19.40-MeV state in ⁸Be were deduced to be 342±112 keV and 11.2±3.5±5.0 (syst.)%, respectively. The ⁷Be(n,p₁)⁷Li* reaction cross section was deduced.
