Study reports first occurrence of Ischiodon aegyptius in India, highlighting its unique morphological traits.
The genus Ischiodon Sack, 1913 (Diptera: Syrphidae) was previously represented in India by a single species, Ischiodon scutellaris (Fabricius, 1805). This study reports the first record of Ischiodon aegyptius (Wiedemann, 1830) from India, based on the morphological examination of an adult female, thereby extending the known range of the species beyond the Afrotropical region and Southern Europe. A brief description of the newly recorded species is provided, along with diagnostic characters distinguishing I. aegyptius from I. scutellaris, photographic documentation, updated distributional data, and a taxonomic key to the Indian species of Ischiodon.
