Narrative review highlights mechanobiological factors impacting pressure ulcer risk in diabetic neuropathy, suggesting tailored offloading strategies.
This article aims to highlight the mechanobiological determinants of foot ulcer risk in diabetic neuropathy. This condition alters sensorimotor control and blunts pressure-induced vasodilation, exposing soft tissues to sustained strain and ischaemia, even without visible deformity. This article presents a narrative clinical review supported by experimental mechanobiology and imaging case studies on diabetic neuropathy. It concludes that ulcer prevention should integrate vascular mechanobiology and biomechanic evaluation into personalised offloading strategies.
