Novel method improves soil thermal conductivity measurement in complex environments, enhancing geothermal energy utilization.
Soil thermal conductivity is a critical parameter influencing geothermal energy utilization and environmental engineering, yet conventional in-situ measurement methods face challenges in spatial resolution and operational efficiency. This study presents a penetration-based methodology integrating a steady-state spherical heat conduction model with a modular device. The theoretical framework enables single-point thermal conductivity determination, eliminating spatial averaging limitations of linear heat source approaches. The apparatus achieves centimeter-scale vertical resolution with minimal soil disturbance. This advancement provides a precise and economical solution for geothermal system optimization, permafrost engineering, and subsurface thermal management, enhancing sustainable resource exploitation in heterogeneous geological environments.
