This study demonstrates the viability of using natural fibers and resins in composites, suggesting a sustainable alternative in product development.
This article presents an excerpt from the final course work, where the objective was to develop a composite formed by natural fibers, namely coconut fiber and sugarcane bagasse, and polyurethane resin based on castor oil. The fibers used are fibrous waste from renewable sources, collected in parks and fairs. The objective was to analyze the characteristics of the materials that make up this composite, in order to evaluate its viability as an alternative to replace more polluting materials in product development, in addition to instigating the valorization of waste as raw material. At the end of the study, samples of composite sheets were obtained for future studies.
