This analysis demonstrates the reliability of transmission towers under wind load, suggesting a statistical approach for evaluating structural integrity.
Aiming at the randomness of wind load and the high-rise structure of the transmission tower, a reliability evaluation method for the transmission tower is proposed considering the statistical indicators of tower elements. The transmission tower has a complex structure. It is more reasonable to measure its overall reliability by using the minimum reliability of components under the combined load of “self-weight + wind load”. To calculate the reliability of the elements, the resistance of the transmission tower element and the statistical parameters of permanent load and variable load are determined. Then, the reliability of the transmission tower elements is computed based on the calculated resistance, permanent load, and variable load. The ANSYS is used to simulate the main and transverse spacer elements of the tower with three-dimensional beam (Beam188) units and the diagonal elements of the transmission tower with three-dimensional rod units (Link180) to establish a hybrid rod-beam finite element model for simulation and analysis, the reliability of the elements under different permanent load and variable load is derived. The results show that it is reasonable to use minimum reliability of the elements to measure the reliability of transmission towers, which can well prevent the overall failure and local failure risk of transmission towers.
