Bibliometric analysis uncovers trends and gaps in impact resistance research on STFs and fabrics.
The increasing demand for advanced materials in ballistic and impact protection has driven interest in shear thickening fluids (STFs) due to their remarkable energy absorption and adaptive mechanical behavior. However, the rapid growth of publications in this field presents challenges in identifying emerging trends and research gaps. This study applies bibliometric techniques and science mapping using tools such as Scopus and VOSviewer to analyze global research on STF-impregnated fabrics from 2013 to 2023. The results reveal significant contributions from Asia, particularly China and India, with India achieving the highest citation count (1319) and South Korea demonstrating the highest citation-per-publication ratio (55.1). Aramid fibers, rheological performance, and impact resistance were identified as dominant themes. The most productive institution was the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, contributing 32 papers. This research contributes by synthesizing current knowledge, highlighting high-impact authors and institutions, and offering a strategic direction for future STF-based protective technologies.
