This article argues for a new liability regime and compliance mechanisms in the energy sector, indicating a shift towards safer practices.
This article discusses the need to promote health and safety in the energy sectorin the era of energy transition. It accounts for health and safety concerns in theenergy sector. It argues that the energy transition brings with it a newdimension to health and safety that is distinct from what has been experiencedin fossil fuels and nuclear energy generation. The implications are that newliabilities are arising from these technologies, raising fresh health and safetyconsiderations distinct from the traditional energy sector. It calls for thedevelopment of a new regime for health and safety that puts standards forenergy transition technologies in place, a liability regime, and compliancemechanisms through regulators. Energy transition therefore should accountfor the development of a viable regime that accommodates the peculiarities ofsafety issues in sustainable energy deployment.
