Metallic structures are subject to degradation processes, with corrosion standing out as one of the main failure mechanisms. In the industrial context, hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) is one of the most aggressive corrosive agents, affecting not only the integrity of equipment, but also representing risks to occupational health and the environment. This work consists of a literature review with the objective of analyzing the corrosive effects of H₂S on metallic parts, especially stainless steel, and investigating effective strategies to mitigate these effects. The approach includes the study of corrosion prevention and control technologies, such as chemical inhibitors, bioinhibitors and protective coatings. The choice of the most appropriate protection methodology depends on the type of corrosion involved and the degree of damage to the material. The implementation of efficient corrosion control measures directly impacts the useful life of industrial equipment and the economy of companies, promoting reduction of operating costs and increased process reliability. In view of this, there is growing investment by the industry in research and development of innovative solutions for monitoring and preventing corrosion in aggressive environments.
