Observational analysis examined sound insulation and load-bearing in sandwich-ply laminates, indicating developments in building materials.
In this study, mechano‐acoustic sandwich‐ply laminates were designed, manufactured, and tested to investigate their load‐bearing and sound insulation abilities. Double‐layered and triple‐layered woven lattice sandwich‐ply (WLS) panels were designed and manufactured, combining with foam filling technique. Out‐of‐plane compression, four‐point bending, and sound insulation tests were conducted. The investigation focused on the impact of polyurethane foam layers on the mechano‐acoustic properties of sandwich‐ply laminates. The neutral plane was identified using the digital image correlation (DIC) full‐field strain measurement system. The experiments revealed that the flexural failure modes of the sandwich‐ply structures encompass bending fracture, core shear fracture, and core crushing. Introducing foam layers and increasing the layer number can greatly enhance the load‐bearing and sound insulation abilities simultaneously.
