Analysis reveals bearing capacity's nonlinear relationship with inlet pressure in air bearings, suggesting optimization potentials.
Air bearings have many advantages, such as low vibration frequency, smooth movement, low friction, and long lifespan. However, their bearing capacity and stiffness are relatively low. In this paper, a three-dimensional model of an air static bearing is established using SolidWorks. After meshing the model with Fluent software, the pressure distribution of the air film in the bearing is simulated under different gas supply pressures. The integral command in Fluent is then used to integrate the pressure on the bearing surface, and the bearing capacity of the air bearing under different pressures is obtained. The pressure distribution of the air bearing exhibits a nonlinear relationship with the inlet pressure. At higher inlet pressures, the bearing capacity is stronger, whereas at lower pressures, it is weaker. By adjusting the inlet pressure, the stability of the bearing performance can be optimized.
