This work demonstrates a unified method for beamforming in spatial sound field analysis using both linear and spherical arrays, indicating varying effectiveness in different scenarios.
Sparse recovery is a relatively well understood technique for spatial sound field analyses. In this work, we re-formulate sparse recovery as a beamforming method and provide a unified framework for both linear and spherical arrays. We provide a perspective that indicates sparse recovery beamforming is more suited to near-field analyses for linear arrays and far-field analyses for spherical arrays. We,therefore, explore the dual use and combination of a linear and spherical array for sparse recovery beamforming and spatial sound field analyses. We analyse various sound fields using this approach and highlight where the combination of arrays provides utility.
